Power steering or gear box

K it happened randomly on my 08. one day steering felt weird but wasnt horrible. drove it to chicago no problems rest of the day. it drastically got worse. now i wont drive it. i dont have a bunch of play. but it wont center correctly. it wanders over the road and going to correct it after i get past center point it jumps over. my play has been the same since i got the truck. it will not turn the wheels at a stop. in park or on brakes. pics of truck in sig. no lift. not big tires. im leaning towards the pump. but looking for info. my fluid is black. could it be as simple as flushing fluid? even then is there a write up somewhere for an 08. ive been looking for a replacement write up and cant find anything. thanks guys. psp is cheaper than gear box so u know which one im hoping for.

edit. looking around underneath after i got my dad to come over to rock the steering wheel i noticed my ball joint on the track bar is severly worn. that would cause jumping all over the road when hitting bumps. and going straight when on smooth highway. i wanna replace it but i also wanna know if anyone sells a kit to change it to hemi joints of the sort. easier and cheaper to replace when it goes out again. havent called ford yet but from what ive seen its a little more than a c note. any one have any ideas

good luck with that !

there are MFG's that sell Heim trac bars but they are around 400 and up

you don't need one IMHO

make sure your axle shaft u joints are not bound up

but from the sounds of it your lacking power steering since you can't turn the wheels with the brakes on

that would likely be a bad pump , gear, or possible hydro boost

you have a new pump but how many miles on the gear ?

now its weird because i can turn with the brakes on. it acts up randomly. it doesnt bounce around the road like it was before. but when i just pulled into my driveway there was a crazy amount of resistance. its not like just no powersteering its like the tire is up against a concrete wall and wont let it turn. ive read a gear box can cause that. theres only 110xxx on my truck and i would assume its not a hydroboost because i still have brakes with no problems

it could be a a u joint in the front axle they don't always wind up at the same position when turning so it can vary in resistance if only one cap is problematic
