2wd to 4wd conversion

I own a 2000 f250 with 2wd. I'm looking at lifts out there and all I find is 6" max. I'm curious if anyone has swapped a 4wd straight axle into a 2wd truck and how much of a pain it would be and what involved.

It is possible, but not very cost effective. Most of the time, you will come out better selling the 2WD and buying a 4WD. If you could find a complete parts truck cheaply, it may be feasible.

Have you tried Fabtech?

Do you just want to put the axle in and that's it or do you want to make it a functional 4wd?

If you want a functional 4wd you'll need a new tailshaft on your tranny, a (manual)transfercase, a front driveshaft, shorter rear driveshaft, the axle itself, new leaf springs, hangers/shackles, tie-rod/drag link.

Shortest list of items I'm sure you'll need
