using large tires on trucks w/ electronic 4x4
so I just got off the phone with the local tire shop, they said they will not install oversize tires on any ford 4x4 with push button four wheel drive. they state that the truck will go in but not come out of four wheel drive and will blow out the diffs and transfer case due to the fact the driveline is caculated for a specific size tire and have had numerous problems .
i'm 34 have had 6 trucks with large tires and the shift on fly and never had any issue Darrell

I know several people with Ford 4x4's with big tires and atleast 2 of them have the push button shift on the fly and they have had no problems with locking hubs or blown out diffs. These trucks us their 4wd too because they use the trucks for snow plowing/ removal.... I don't know what to think about what the tire shop said to you, maybe there is some truth to it but I have never heard of it.

What's happening is the idiots with problems are hitting the 4wd button once they are half stuck and spinning the rear tires like a sprint car in the mud. Sure the hubs are blowing up. I bet they also throw it back and forth from drive to reverse when they are getting stuck without letting off the throttle. Then after they self destroyed their truck they do the Walmart thing and bring it back to the tire shop and want someone to fix their junk.
