97 f250 questions front axle

okay guys im new to the forum but fortunately not new to the blue oval. I recently bought a 97 f250 that has an sas already done. I'm having some pretty bad hopping issues when running down the road. This truck is big i understand its not going to drive like a Cadillac. I also have one spring shackle that is broken. The previous owners were not the brightest of sorts i imagine and heres why. They tied the two front leaf spring shackles together with a crossover bar. Does anyone know of any rhyme or reason some one would have done this?? What im trying to calm down is the hopping and also to repair the leaf shackles and what im wanting to know is if these were at one time stock shackles and if i could find some new ones for it. I could pull these apart and do some fab work but just afraid they are too weak now seeing as one is cracked. I have attached several pictures and would appreciate any input on this as i would like to find the hangers pretty soon. so any links etc would be very helpful thank you in advance for your time. also im fairly positive that this is a ball joint d60 not positive so any insight into that would be helpful as well.

i can't tell from the pics but did they add a shackle at the rear of the spring?
thats the only reason i could see for linking the front shackles and its a very bad way to do it anyway.
i would rip out everything they did and start from scratch. that is some hokey engineering.

undoubtedly, most of youre bouncing is coming from those tires, they are notorious for being a square tire. also i would find new shackles for sure, i just did a google search and found some, theyre a little pricey but IMO that isnt safe to be riding on.
