I am in need of a Axle rebuild ( $1300/center only) as my Dana80 center carrier is popping and clicking! I purchased this truck for towing heavy loads with a gooseneck trailer, and it was set up great from the factory. It's got 7.3 for power, ZF 6spd and a Dana80 w/4.10:1 gears.
I have a choice of a used Dana80 replacement with 3.73:1 $700 so I would have to regear to 4.10. Or for the same price as the D80 I can buy a Dana S110 and matching front mono beam with all springs and brackets from '02 F-450 $850. I might have to change gears in this also to 4.30, but have found center sections used on ebay for a reasonable price @$650 or so.
Has anyone done this before? I have read that the early F-350, F-450 and F-550 shared the same frames so this should be a matter of blood, sweat, tears and alot of heavy lifting! Lol
