Power steering issues
I did a search, but I can't find any reports of a similar problem. I took my '04, 250, 6.0, FX4 hunting for the first time. Got her stuck. I was working it pretty hard to get out and when I ave up and started the walk back to call I noticed a small puddle of red fluid. I got back to the truck with my grandfather's tractor about an hour later and the puddle was the same size. We got the truck out and I started the drive back to camp. The power steering pump was screaming, but it steered fine. When I pulled into camp the brakes were "pumping back" against me. I put some cardboard under the truck so I could monitor the leaking and it leaked several puddles about the size of dollar bills. I checked the fluid after it cooled down and it was low. I let it sit all night and then this morning i added two bottles of power steering fluid (the only local store didn't have any ATF). Then I cranked it up. The pump was no longer squeeling and after a test drive there was no leaking fluid. I drove 135 miles back home at 70 mph with no problems. When I pulled in my driveway I noticed it leaking. I just let it sit for an hour and went out and checked. The amount it leaked is a few small puddles that all combined are probably about Tue size of half a dollar bill. The fluid level is low again. Any insight on this situation? Right now I'm figuring I'll put more fluid in it and watch it. I'm thinking I might have built up the pressure and blown it out of the lid and the leaking now is just residual dripping from the original leak.
