2.5" tuff country 1997

Hey all, new to the forum and to my 1997 Powerstroke f250. I am thinking of buying the tough country 2.5" kit. Tough country says that you can only fot 33" tires with that kit. But heard that you could fit up to 35s. Is this true? I have 285 r 16 on there now with a good amount of tread on them so I was going to wear those down first. But wanted to go ahead and get the lift and get the tires at a later date. Could i spring for 35s when the time comes?
