Locking Hubs
Looking at buying a used 05 4wd Powerstroke.. Truck has manual locking front hubs. Are there any kits that allow automatic hubs? Should I steer clear of this truck or not. Any pro/cons for being manual hubs?
Thanks for the help! JR |

The good thing about manual locking hubs is that they are locked in no matter what. So if you get stuck and put it in 4x4 you dont have to cross your fingers and hope the hubs lock in if they were automatic. I converted to manual locking also for that reason. My stock auto hubs weren't locking in when i really needed them... if that helps

I have never owned a 4wd without automatic hubs.. My 98 Tahoe works great when i want 4wd.. I just press the button. My whole thing was that I didn't wana have to get out of the truck to lock them in. Can I run with them locked all the time? I was reading about them and it sounds like the front axles will be turning and the front drive shaft. Is that the only thing? I know I'm being picky about a truck that may only see 4wd twice a year but just trying to learn..
Thanks again. |
