leaf vs coil

My neighbor and I both have 2005 F350 crew cabs. Mine has leaf springs in front, his has coils. Any clues as to why, or reasons for preferences?

Also have a 2005 F250 SuperCab which rides much rougher than my F350. both are long beds, and are empty unless towing travel trailer or boat. It's the empty ride that I notice the F250 being more rough
