steering problems

I am having a intermittent problem with my steering, when i turn the wheel it will stay turned about 1/4 turn, ill be going straight but fighting the wheel, then all of the sudden the truck will jump and everything will be normal for a while. then today the truck started shaking while turning for a few turns and then it was fine for the rest of the trip. has this happened to anyone else? i was thinking it might be the box, but i am not sure.

all the steering linkage was replaced, along with all ball joints last fall

I just went through this on my truck.

One (or both) of your universal joints in the front axle is seized (up in the knuckle/steering joint).

Lift your front end, and turn on ignition so wheel isn't locked, try to push the wheels left and right by hand. If you can, then lock the hubs, rotate the tires about 90 degrees, and then try to push the wheels left/right again. If you then can't (or now can) steer the tires left or right, it is a Ujoint.

Well, you did say the steering problem and shaking went away at the end of your trip. The Ujoints may be intermitently sticking and are currently broke free.

If your truck was shaking after doing a tight turn for a while, it definately isn't steering box, it is in the axles/driveline.

I'll throw a set of u-joints in and see if that fixes it, they are the original and the truck has 100k
