Hi, so here my truck (1999 F250SD 1/99) sits after cleaning up the body and adding the 2013 F350 wheels and tires. Looks much better than the older wheels and 235/16" tires..
I was planning on dropping the back to shorter blocks but I like the way it looks now with the larger tires 275/70-18" and would like to lift the front. Spring codes-XA on tag. Original 25k miles and still has the plow frame attached (maybe 50# or more possibly hanging off the front?) which eventually will be removed.
Mileage is low, yet the weight on oem front springs has been 17 years now. Should I replace the X springs with replacements and add a spring pack?
Or locate a multi type leaf kit to get raised up (leveled) ?
In these pics, the rear is 4" higher then the front.
One local shop was replacing springs completely, shocks, bar etc. near $2k another was just adding spring packs ( larger ones ) no track bar $700..
Rather confusing, way to different of variations yet just want a decent safe ride. Not plowing with it.
Any help would be appreciated.
I have a later model truck 2006 which is coils up front. But I put Carli/Deaver springs in the rear and the difference was unreal.
If your looking for a good ride that's what I would look for. Icon also has nice quality leaf springs but both are expensive. I have also seen guys do a 2005 up conversion going to coil springs up front.
Do some research and see what it will cost both ways.
Good Luck with it.
Saw the Replacement X codes on SDTRUCK SPRINGS.COM, would think ill still need something on top of that to raise.
BDS I looked at today, I have to call them, obvious prod date issues. (Wondering about ride with multi leaf spring?)
Atlas I'll look up tonight. Would like to hear about multi leaf replace to springs and ride quality.
Deaver makes front springs for your truck. Call or send them an email. Tell them what you are looking for. I got quoted 450 for the front pair and that was an x code height that rides better.
Icon also makes very high quality springs. I'm running Icon 7" coils up front on my truck. It had Fabtech coils when I bought truck. The Icon springs are much nicer ride not even comparable. My truck rides as good as my wife's Tahoe.
It was stiff as a Sherman tank when I bought it. You can get a nice ride just need the right springs and shocks.
I had a 99 super duty and did a front shackle reversal kit on it. It rode much better and leveled out the height. I was the best bang for the buck.
I alway thought Alcan or Deaver made Greg Donahoe's springs. I never knew that Donahoe turned into Icon. I know Donahoe had some serious legal problems. However hisSuper Duty suspensions was way better than anything else at the time.
I would do Deavers for sure if you have the coin. When I was down there at Deaver, in Santa Ana, they just finished a 99 crew cab. The owner took it for a ride around the block and said he was very impressed with the new springs.
