If the front hubs are locked in (either manually or because the auto hubs are screwed up) you'll get a binding/popping when the wheels are turned all the way. While annoying this is perfectly normal.

you jack it up and get no play in the wheels? I get that noise and my wheel bearings and ball joints are goin out
