Spartan Owner - Cupholder Installation

I just got my Spartan Dahdaq last week and loved how clean and tidy the unit itself was. The touchscreen is awesome and the picture is crystal clear. But the one thing I didn't like was having to mount it on my windshield. Not only does the look drive me nuts, but it just makes it way to easy of a target for thieves. So after looking all around the truck for somewhere else to install it, here what I came up with.

I pulled the 6" long pin that hold in the fold out cupholders. Then I removed the 2 philips screws that held on the steel peice at the bottom. Once the cupholders were out I found that the original mounting bracket that came with the dashdaq will suction right to the back of the opening. Installing it here not only make the cable easy to tuck under the dash, but also brings the screen 12" closer to your eyes then if it were mounted in the middle of the windshield. I also fabricated a black cover to go over the unit when its folded down so nobody can tell there is anything in there. The cover attaches with velcro which is nice, because it means no cutting or drill anywhere!!!! When I dont want the cover on I can put it in the glovebox.

Here my pics.

unit folded down ready for cover

cover in place

pictures not the best, but you get the idea.

let me know what you think or if you have yours mounted somewhere else.

Thanks, Matt

Nice work! I like your idea a lot better than any kind of winshield mount.

Yeah true, but it would be funny for the person who stole it to load it on their truck have everything short out

Thats the problem though. Most theives are so stupid they wouldn't even know what it is, and would look forever for a spot to put the batteries in thinking its a gps.
