Traction bar question?

Hey guys I got a question for yall! Ive got the plates off my old truck. They bolt ontop of the leafsprings and are for a set of short traction bars. What I was wondering is instead of making a braket to bolt to the frame to bolt the other end of the traction bar to I was wondering if I could just use two pieces of plate steel and clamp (sandwich the leafspring) them on the leaf spring pack towards the front of the vehicle near the leaf spring mount.

Dont make fun of my drawing! You get the idea!
