I think there's a time and a place. But it should be used carefully. I think a lot of the people who like the idea of open carry are people who want to be mr badass. Personally, in most situations I would rather the potential bad guy to not know I have a weapon, unless of course it's a situation where the open carry could prevent the encounter in the first place.

While I agree and disagree with atvrider, concealed carry is the way to go. Get your license and do it. I live in Wyoming ( I grew a while new love with Wyoming with their law against the federal government) I'm military and not a Wyoming resident. I have a PA license to carry. Conceal carry when you can, enjoy you're 2nd amendment rights while you can

Here in Louisiana we have open carry law and a law that states that your vehicle is a direct extension of your home. I like the open carry law but I love the other law. Somebody see's you walking around with a Kimber 1911 .45 on your side, they tend to leave you the hell alone. Lol.

Not a fan of open carry. If I was a bad guy looking to steal a gun, it's too easy to sneak up behind you, hit you in the head with a rock/brick/bat, and walk away with your weapon. I may or may not shoot you as I'm making my escape. Stealing a gun that way is easier, less risky, and has a higher chance of success than breaking into a home or vehicle (which may or may not have a gun).
Taking it one step further, a lot of holsters don't have a retention strap. Without that, it's ridiculously easy to sneak up behind you and simply pull the gun out of the holster. An experienced thief might even bump into you while he's stealing your gun so you don't notice what's happening. If the gun has cleared the holster and you DO notice, it's too late.
