Model 500?

Looking at the basic Mossberg Model 500 shotgun, anybody got one? Issues? Decent or No?

Also looking at a Kel-Tec P-11 for CC, seems like a decent little pistol, seems to get decent reviews. anybody had experience with?

The shotgun will be purely home defense, a few rounds at the range monthly to keep sharp

the same goes for the P-11, but will be getting my CC permit hopefully soon.

These seem to be pretty budget friendly guns......which is good for me LOL. I just don't have the money to spend on high end stuff. I'm hoping these two are a compromise of money and quality.....any thoughts?

500 is extremely reliable, I just hate the mossberg slide releases. not ergonomic imo. it it were me I'd get an auto loader. bit more expensive but awesome home defense guns.

Used to have one years ago, (well my family did when i lived at home)....it was nice, but it seemed a little more prone to jamming than the mossie pump we had....i wonder if they have improved since then

it had a hard time loading 3" 00 and slugs when it had the slightest bit of gunk IIRC, its been many moons ago

I just sold one, but they are great guns, very reliable.

I sold it because I use my Mossburg Maverick more, which also has a tap for a scope on it.

The only thing I do not like about the 500 is the Thumb safety on the back of the gun. I like trigger safeties, but to each their own.

If you like synthetic, go with the cheaper Maverick. Barrels are interchangeable, btw.

Mossburg 500 is a great pump gun.

And the thumb safety is one of my favorite features over the M870, haha

But I grew up shooting doubles, so I'm used to the safety being there on my shotguns.

Just a thought what about a Mossberg 835? its basically the same as the 500 but is chambered for 3.5" shells. Not that you shoot 3.5's a lot but it is nice to have the ability and its not much more money. My brother has a 500 and loves it. I have had two 835's and love em, shoot awesome, and they are as realiable as a hammer!

MOSSBERG 500 is a fine shotgun for the money, but don't buy the kel-tec, they have issues
