This year the Colorado Division of Wildlife is going to start charging $25 per species per year just for a preference point if you didn't hunt that species last year and you don't draw out or hunt this year. I have been applying for buck points for the past twelve years. I have not hunted bucks in the past twelve years. Waiting for that trophy hunt of a lifetime. With the new rule in place, it will cost me 25 bucks a year just to get my point. This is the first year in 12 that I won't be applying for a buck point. Do the math, it will be cheaper to go to Wyo or Mont. Especially for those of us who are accruing points for our wives, children & grandchildren.
I think it's total crap. I've been on the phone with them in Denver & I have also written two letters. The guy I talked to told me that lots more hunters need to write letters soon to get this thing repealed. If you go to Colorado DOW website, there is a contact page that you can type a letter in.
Also if you're waiting for your grandchild to get old enough to hunt with you, be careful, if you fail to "Buy" a preference point from them or a tag within a ten year period, they "PURGE" all of your points from your account.
Oh ya, you can't just send in the $25 plus the $3 for administrative costs to get your point, you have to send in the full amount of the tag so that they can collect interest on it. What a racket. I'm pissed off about this whole thing, (in case you didn't pick up on that)
Have you ever eatin a preference point, they're deeeeeeeeeeeelicious!
FUG!
I used to be able to afford to hunt in this beautiful state.
