Spy Shots: 2009 Ford F-450 Harley-Davidson Edition

Spy Shots: 2009 Ford F-450 Harley-Davidson Edition

Posted Jul 2nd 2008 5:02PM by Noah Joseph
Filed under: Spy Photos, Trucks/Pickups, Ford, Special/Limited Editions

If you're a Harley-Davidson fan you might be interested in driving...well, riding an actual Harley. But for those who can't (or won't), Ford has been working on a new Harley-Davidson edition of its F-Series Super Duty pickup. While previous versions were based on the smaller, lighter-duty F-150 pickup, these spy shots and accompanying reports indicate that the new version we're looking at is the full-fat, heavy-duty F-450, complete with dually rear axle and quad-cab four-door set-up.

Like the previous set of spy shots that surfaced back in May, these photos of the undisguised test mule show a variety of exterior add-ons, including blue flames extending down the flank of the truck, although the flames are only visible on one side of the spied vehicle, with the Harley badge evident on the other, suggesting these could have been applied to throw us off. (We won't be surprised to see the final version unveiled in either way.) Unique wheels and special lettering along the side of the bed walls also form part of the visual package, while special badging and leather are anticipated to round out the interior. No changes are expected of the 6.4-liter twin-turbo diesel, already capable as it is of towing a couple of hogs on a trailer behind it, but we're expecting a price tag of over $60k for the special-edition truck.

Man, just from the little I've seen it IS, indeed, a sexy truck! But is it just me, or does the '08 platforms seem to exclusively revolve around the F-350 & 450s. I don't mean to gripe, but in numerous diesel magazines I've read, all you see for the '08 are duallies. Take for example: G.A.S's Hydrogen F-450, Street Scene's F-350 4x4 & 4x2, X-Treme Toyz's 4x450. What about us single wheel guys? Out of all the '08 models anyone could ever deck out, especially in a time of crisis with the whole fuel price BS, why can't anyone do-up a single wheel PSD? What gives?

Coming from a KR owner who never really was turned on by the Harley Editions, the F-450 is a sharp truck.

I have a little more info for you.

Ford will be offering a "tough bed" option for the 09 Superduty model.

" Ford is taking a page from Nissan's playbook by offering a factory-applied, spray-in bedliner for 09 Superduty pick-ups. Ford says it's Tough Bed" option is a "Military grade coating" that has been through testing to withstand blomb blasts. It has performed equal to or better than other protective coating systems at one-third the thickness. Developed by PPG, the bedliner comes with a full factory warranty and will be available this summer"

I never trust anything that says "military grade". That usually means that it's an outdated piece of crap. With the way the military acquisition process works, by the time we get it the civilian market has something better and cheaper.

I would guess that the reason you see so many dual rear wheel rigs is because they come with the wider front axle with corresponding front fender flares, which changes the look for the better (in my opinion). I don't like the look of the front end of the new trucks, but the flares do make it tolerable.
