This is what I picture. We add thousands of new deisel cars and trucks on the road with out adding refinery's or any other means of busting production. In turn we will see diesel prices closer to 2 to 3 dollars more than gas compared to $.80

Oh i forgot thats why diesel is more than gas now.

Thats what i was thinking great 100k more diesel burning drivers. $10 a gallon here we come. of course the flip side to this is how many people will be willing to spend 30-50k on the truck and then fill it $5+ a gallon diesel.

I don't think the 20% thing is that accurate. Considering they estimate the torque being 15 (or 20) % better than the 5.4 even though its pushing about 170ftlb more than the 5.4 (supposedly). Thats closer to 50% more.

Depending on how its geared I think it'll get better milage. Maybe 18 city. Hopefully they try to gear it more towards milage than tow cap.

A 6.5 gets 21 mpg hwy in a 1500. With the new lighter Ford engine it should get 25 mpg.

I'd look to replace my gas burner SUV for a diesel pickup getting close to 20% better economy. I would hope city mileage would be at least close to 18, and they could do it, easily... If they wanted to, that is. At 18mpg city, and 22+ hwy, I'd prolly buy one in a 1/2 ton truck.

I'd feel better about it though, if they made it in an American plant. Don't care what they call it, just build it!

Other major companies are stepping up as well. NISSAN is supposedly about to offer a diesel in the TITAN and Toyota has plans for the TUNDRA... GM clearly will offer a 1/2 ton version and I've been checking Ford's website to see mention of their upcoming models... So far, no mention of this 4.4L on there, but I have hope.

Other companies are doing better with their V8 gas burners too, using the electronic systems we've all heard about. GM and DODGE both use similar systems, and Ford is apparently offering a 3-valve 4.6 next yr.

On the other hand, if Ford offers a 4.4L V8 diesel in a 1/2 ton, then asks 3/4-1ton price for it... I think I'll stick with the bigger pickup.
