A simple redesign of the 7.3 motor would have easily put it back in good standing with the new emission standards. And done it without all the issues of the new motors designs. I am starting to think about going to the dark side guys. I can only waste so much money trying to catch up with what I can simply buy.

I am not overly excited about Ford building a deisel motor, look at the 5.4 and v-10. Ford has lost touch with reality on their motor design. Think about it, we used to have the great 5.0, 460, and 7.3. Look at what we have now.

I was waiting to see what happened with the 6.0 before I bought one, decided to wait to see the 6.4, now a new motor in the making??????

I hope they pull it together soon, we will run out of used 7.3's to buy before long.

The test truck may be kind of funny looking, but it's still better looking than a dodge! As long as it's a , I can still get a six speed, and somebody is making an exhaust to fit it I'll be happy.

Now there is no need to be calling the 6.0 a POS.. yes the early years had there quirks but so does any engine, I can atest that my 06 is one of the best diesels I've ever owned. Right now we run 4 different 6.0's in knee deep mud everyday, usually pulling heavy duty trailers, and half the time we have to be pulled in on dozers... long story short, we have had 0 problems out of these trucks! Ford finally got the 6.0 right and then they went and screwed the pooch and made it harder on themselves with the 6.4L They just need to stick with a dang engine for more than 5 years..

I personally think that Ford and CAT should hook up and put in a 7 liter strait 6 six, that would be a step in the right direction. But.....

As stated, it's only a test platform. I can understand the panic though because of the way the '08s look. I would think that many of the '09 F150 styling cues will find their way into the SD. I would be surprised if the Powerstroke name was retained though due to the high negatives associated with the 6.0L and poor MPG of the 6.4L. Hopefully the DPF will be gone and urea injection will take it's place.

This is somewhat on topic, if its too far off i apologize. I've noticed something, they got rid of the 7.3 because of emissions, then got rid of the 6.0 because of emissions, then in a few years they're gonna ditch the 6.4 for the same reason. They've spent countless millions designing entirely new engines to meet new emission standards, why couldn't they just update the existing? Thats what GM has done with the Duramaxipad i believe. Why couldn't they just have updated the 7.3 to be emissions compliant, rather than dumping millions into new motor platforms?

I disagree, the SOHC 4.6L in every way is better than the OHV 5.0, much more hp and wider tq range. The 5.4 3V is a great pulling motor and I would rather have one that a 460. The 3V V10 destroys the 460 in hp and tq numbers. The the new 6.4L diesel is turning out ok considering the BS emissions. Not to mention 500+ hp and 1000 ft. lbs have been made on regen delete tuner alone. JMO tho

Am I the only one that thinks the picture looks photoshopped? Something about the headlights and the hood above them just isn't right...but anyway it's ugly. I think by 2011 the Super Duty will be overdue for a makeover so why would Ford waste time testing in the current body style...but who knows
