From a Freight Brokerage prospective bud, dont settle for what you feel is a fair rate. Hold tight for the rate you need, it will come, you just may have to talk to 10 different brokers to get it.

Regretfully, I am technically a "Lease Operator" with Landstar.
I don't have much control over the rates.

Thats an even worse situation, No offense.

Brokers take their commision, then the Landstar agent takes thiers then Landstar coorporate then you. If I were in your shoes I would only haul for Landstar coorporate. That is unless you are getting a set rate per mile plus FSC. or have them pay you off the percentage of what the load was accepted at...

Well, the loads I haul are from the Landstar agents and I don't know which loads are brokered loads or which ones are not. I get 65% of the revenue and 100% of the FSC which varies from load to load. I have been with them for 3 months now and it has been less than OK. However, in their defense, I have to be home every weekend for Family purposes. I was under the impression that I could still be successful with LS doing this because I live along the I-95 corridor. This weeks settlement check will be the first one I have had over $1,000.
I did have to do some "creative" writing on my log book though to make that happen.

Well being home every weekend can hurt your ability to run expecially the 95 corridor. The FSC is the issue. I cant go into further details but just understand a lot of Brokers and Carriers pay flat rates with no FSC broken out...

You can not say that any clearer. I think they worry too much about what goes on abroad then right here in our own back yard.

This is an excelent article about where we are headed in the next few years. Fuel prices are what makes things revolve in this country whether it is the truck driver, the farmer or the consumer. The american public has to cut back somewhere

it's not the old supply and demand, the reason is our dollar is worth $hit right know and the oversea's investors are making a killing buying up all the oil commodites, plus wall street is using oil as a hedge against inflation and the government doesn't make them report the hedge funds like they used to before the whole Enron scandal. Buy no means am I sticking up for those scums over there pumping out the crude but the speculators on wall street are driving up the price ten fold. just my

sorry for the rant

Angry So sick of the ignorance in America

1. this article is another in a series of bleeding heart government socialists want more regulation, which will destroy competition and our great country.

2. The O/O drives a Western Star which averages 4.0-5.0 mpg. Most fuel surcharge rates on based on a 6mpg. Translation:get a different truck or get a different job.

3. $11,000 in income for the year. The driver used as the example doesn't have the brains to be an O/O. Our economy provides a system of "natural selection"; if you ain't got the brains and ability to run your own business YOU'RE OUT.

4.I am an O/O. My rig is aerodynamically sound and I average 7.2 mpg lifetime. I watch my budget items like a hawk. I am doing well. The A/P story is propaganda. ALL THE OWNER OPS WITH WHOM I ASSOCIATE VIEW THE GOVERNMENT AS THE ENEMY. WE NEED FAR LESS GOVERNMENT REGULATION AND ABSOLUTELY NO INTERVENTION. It is what is destroying our economy and our country. People who disagree either have an agenda or are plain ignorant. PERIOD!

How many billions does it take per quarter b-4 you feel secure in life financially.
Big oil is a bunch of SCUM SUCKING PIGS. I find i hard to believe that as successful as big oil is that of the big three (Exxon Shell Chevron) not one of them can refine transport and distribute fuel for not even .01 less than the other. Now I am sure that the ULSD has something to do with recent diesel run ups, but come on diesel is the life blood of America.
Example: If a barrel of crude costs 100.00 (50 gallons) one day and the next day it is 101.00 per barrel, that is only .02 per gallon increase, not .20 @ the pump that we see every other day.
