Diagnosing Possible Problem with New Purchase

I moved to Colorado and found the truck I have doesn't have enough power pulling trailers up the mountains. So, I'm looking for a Ford diesel and had been looking for a Ford 7.3L, but all of the ones I've found have too many miles on them. I cannot affort to purchase something new at this time as I just purchased a new car after moving here.

Since there are so many Ford 6.0L diesels and I know they had or have issues, is there a way to tell by any diagnosis if it will have problems?

Are there any concerns with the Ford 6.4L diesel engine? I have found a few of those in my price range and I did not check with the Ford Service Department on this motor and what issues it may or may not have.

Thanks!

coloappygirl - If you search long enough youll find the right 7.3L but you may have to travel a bit , as for a 6.0 if you find something someone has dumped alittle money into the motor (headstuds ,egr delete ,etc) basically bulletproofing it , as for 6.4 you maybe able to find something reasonable ,but same thing applies , Their are concerns about the 6.4 also the 6.0 , but my best advice would be to do some searching threw all the threads on this site , filled with a wealth of info , that will help you make a decision , IMO go with the 6.4
