I've used 11395 LubrMatic White Lithium Motor Assembly Grease on every motor (street or race) that I've ever built and never once have I seen a problem with it. I've probably built 40 motors or so with it over all. If it's going together quick and will be fired quick I see nothing wrong with using motor oil or STP to assemble with. 95% of the motors I've built have been racing motors and most of those have been Fords. I never use White Lithium on a flat tappet cam though.
Pre-Lube the motor before cranking and move the crankshaft a 1/4 turn at a time between pre-lube events until you have made a complete circle.
2 complete circles of the crank shaft!
ive used redline, amsoil, shaffers, and others.
as these diesels are mostly roller cams, any assembly lube will work... flat tappet cams youre going to need somthing with extra zinc due to the GD EPA
