Your an Amsoil dealer? What what oil did you get quoted? And by who? I just did the calculation online and came up with $105 shipped, no sales or excise taxes. Some one is messin with you.

I am going to change to synthetic. But I do have a question for those that have made the switch. First off I have an 03 with the 7.3L with just over 60,000 miles. I have decided to go with Amsoil. I have a dealer in town and he is going to sign me up as a preferred customer. He is paying for my first 6 months.

Question 1. do I want to run the engine flush through before I change the oil?

Question 2. Do I want to use the 15w-40 or the new 5w-30 diesel oil? I do live in the midwest so winter is coming on.

Question 3. Any other advice?

Thanks,

Use the 15W-40. your injection system is Oil Pressure dependant, and the thinner oil MAY affect that. Not fro sure, just a possible issue I foresee. Good to see you have a local guy to take care of you. Where are you, anyhow?

I would run 2 bottles of Amsoil motor flush through your motor just to insure you get the system clean and have minimal amount of the old stuff still in there.

That's what I wanted to here. That was my concern with the injection system. This has been a hard decision to go synthetic or not. This is my first Superduty with a diesel. Have never ran synthetic in my vehicle's. I did start using mobile 1 in my atv, did notice a better start in the winter.

I'm in Iowa.

I voted FOR the synthetic, but for one reason...

I run whatever I can get in 15W-40 in the diesel. Just got it changed at Jiffy Lube for $60 with filter, and they lubed the chassis and vaccumed the carpet!!! Costs me about $45 to do it my self...and it takes me about an hour, and I ruin a t-shirt in the process, (and a pair of mechanix gloves). Jiffy lube took 30 mins...though it ticked me off that they tried 4 times to put the truck out of the bay with the parking brake on (even after I told them it was on).

I run nothing but synthetic in my Neon. Save for after an engine rebuild. I'll run the cheapest oil I can get for the break-in, then at about 7500 miles, I'll be anal about putting in Mobil1 synthetic every 2500 miles.

The Neon (when running) sees pretty high revs (7500rpm) for long periods and stays pretty warm for long periods. (I pretty much drive it like I stole it, along with some track time without a lot of cooldown time between runs).

I've been thinking about running Royal Purple, but with it being 4 times more expencive than Mobil1, I can't afford it, (heck, I can barely pay BG&E for the power bill)
