I have an '84 K20 that has the 6.2 L in it that I am trying to decide whether to convert it to a 6.5L turbo or do 12 valve Cummins swap. Either way it will have an NV4500 Trans and a divorced NP205 T-case. This truck won’t be towing much and I don’t plan on getting in to sled pulls with it, I just want something different to drive. I will likely put a lift and 38 to 40 inch tires on it. The end goal is for a show truck with an edge.
Your advice, opinions, and suggestions are wanted.
I'm going with Cummins. If you want to play with it it would be cheaper and easier than the others to hop up a little, since you are going to lift it. Go with Cummins
You could do a CAT 3116 thats mostly mechanical Or you can go the the 3126 which has much electrical stuff on it and then you could back it with an Allison or a 10 or 13 speed. OOO and then an air brake setup and air horns. This isn't even my project and look what I'm thinking about.
I did this conversion back in late 96 before I ever owned a compooter.
Now days the info and conversion parts are for sale and plenty of pics on the Internet.
I'm not sure but my truck might have been one of the first few truck's of this body style to get the conversion.:dunno:
That is a "Good, ol' fashion, sit down on a 5 gallon bucket and figger it out conversion"
Yep I still got it. The motor has 800,000+ miles and it's purdy tired.
That's the last body style that I really liked from GM.
I found anotherCC 4x4 and drug it home a few years back, I will never sell any of my conversions and this truck will sit out back just in case I some how wreck the conversion.ointlaugh:
There are not many CC 4x4 around here anymore, Not sure if they are easy to find else where in the country.

Found this one on theweb and fell in love with it. I love old Chevy 6X6 duellys I think because there was only a hand full to begin with. This one I belive has a 6.2L also!
Oh thats no fun. Besides I like this truck. It was built the same month of the year I was born and next to my PSD is the most reliable and fuel efficiant truck I have ever owned.
Alright, I was looking around and found a '75 F250 Highboy thats not in such bad shape and the wife says I might be able to get it (especially if I sell the Chevy). The same mods still apply as the Ford has a 360 in it. Atleast it already has a NP 205 thats devorced.
You know what I haven't seen yet, is someone swapping a 6.4 PSD into an older truck; Ford or Chevy. That would be awesome, and maybe a first. Maybe buy a wrecked donor???
Put a 5.9 into it.
Go to the cummins forum and look around on there there a a section about cummins conversions
