i would leave windows up and remove anything that can be removed to lighten 'er up, as well as run out as much gas in the tank as possible, and leave just enough to race and get to a station. also put some 93 octane with octane boost. i would just before the race run without an air filter. dont forget to turn everything off that you dont need like the A/C and radio. over inflate your tires a bit to decrease resistence. all the little things add up in the end. then try to get him off the line.

Exactly what I was going to say except the air filter part, haven't heard of that one.

When we raced, (boats.... so this might be different) but the standard was every 10 pounds was 1 mph. Got a spare tire haning underneath?

i had a 99 GMC sonoma and i completely removed the air muffler so there was like a 2 1/2" hole there and i ran it like that for about a year and went down dirt roads and it lasted through quite a pounding or two. I never saw a problem with it. it ran smooth when i got it all the way through untill i got rid of it. im not saying to run it forever like that but i doubt it will hurt to run it for a 1/4 mile without it. my dad ran his bronco pulling the sled for years with just a funnel looking thing on there with no filter.
