In Seminole County Florida we pay by GVW. When I first bought the truck they tagged it 7999 lbs and it cost me $124. I went to tag agency to get plates for my trailer and asked about upgrading the GVW on the truck. I upgraded to 10500 plates for $24. So the renewal will be somewhere around $150. Here they don't care about what you tow as part of your truck plates. This because a trailer over 2k lbs becomes a title trailer and then you pay by the GVW of the trailer because it has it's own title.
