Wanted a manual but the wife didn't and what momma says goes! Plus the truck we wanted is hard to come by here in Ohio and we actually found it 5 miles from the house.

Auto all the way, between my dad and myself we have had 6 PSDs, the only manual was my dad's 00' 2wd short bed supercab, it was also the only 2wd, it got 13 solo and 9 pullen, the others in stock mode all do, or did 15-16 solo and 10-11 pullen all crew cab swb 4x4 3:73 , except dads new truck, he's had it 2 weeks, witch is reg cab & chassis DRW 4x4 4:10 gears with 9' flat bed and its doing 15 solo 10 pullen with only 1500 miles on the clock. and whats up with that 6-speed shift pattern.

6 Spd

I HAD to have the 6 speed. I had 3 criteria when I was truck shopping: Crew Cab, Diesel, and MT. I hate to admit this, but I was not necessarily brand loyal. My previous truck was a 96 F250 Super Cab 2wd with MT, and I was really happy with that for trailer pulling. I have always been a MT guy, and when I even suggested that I look at a AT, my wife said "Don't even bother. I don't want to hear you snivel about the AT for the next 10 years - get an MT." Does she know me or what?

well with that being said I had no problems with my transmission in my Ford. I do firmly believe that most any aftermarket chip/tuner/programmer does good for the truck if used properly. If you use it specifically for a little mileage and power gain there's a good chance it could increase the life of the engine. Also most if not all of them modify the transmission programming as well, increasing line pressure and firming up shifts, locking the TC quicker...But most people go nuts with the newfound power and are into all the time lowering the mileage and causing accelerated wear to the tranny. If I had it to do over again, for my choice i'd probably go automatic and build the tranny.

Had 2001 PSD with 6-speed, didnt like low being to left and down, when I had a big load behind it, had to start in low, and when your pulling out in trafic its a long shift, would have been a lot quicker if low were directly above first, and first is way to close to reverse. The ZF just isnt a smooth shifting transmision, I own a Ford L-8000 with a spicer 6-speed and same shift pattern, and even though pattern is the same its just a smother shifting tranny.

This is my 2nd PSD with the 6spd. I wouldnt change. to me it's just a personal preference. I've worked on too many of the E40D's to know what can happen and the expense in rebuilding them. Plus I like the manuals better for pulling. Just my .02.
