A friend of mine had a 2000 F-350 SRW. The trans locked up (his description) while towing his 5th wheel so he had it rebuilt to better specs. When we took it for a test run it shifted kinda like my Allison and upshifted pretty much the same. Was this just done with a shift kit/valve body change or are there other mods that can be done to make it similar? Seemed very solid after that. Won't discuss the high school ribbing we gave each other getting his rigs home. But I was bummed when I found out he sold it as I do like the way Ford builds their trucks for the most part. Dig the styling and the 7.3 (if the owner keeps up on coolant issues). But my Max is also doing a good job, which it should with only 20k in 3 yrs. Hard to remember what it drives like but vacation is a coming and we're taking a road trip. Gettin' kinda pumped up now.

i've run looney on my torqueshift for a year.... no problems at all, awesome shifting, no slipping at all

my bro has an LBZ w/ PPE 225hp tune for not quite a year and his tranny hasnt slipped and still shifts firmly and perfectly (even though his tune is not recommended on a stock tranny)

so idk really which is better... toss up

i like both

I like all 3 trucks but I guess the GM buy down thing got me. Good or bad I dunno. Test drove a 2004 Dodge dualley with 32k on it and it about jumped off the freeway at 80mph. Stopped me there. Really wanted a 2005 Ford F-350 but in talking with my finance company they mentioned the problems Ford was having with the 6.0. In retrospect an 05 was pretty much after the problem years. So finally after trying Ford and Dodge I drove a Chebbie. Kinda like Goldie locks and the 3 bears..just right. But I now know about the IFR and tie rod ends collapsing so all 3 have their issues. I don't know why I have a 4x4 that is so wide that I won't take it off road much and break the plastic fenders. My friends 350 srw would have allowed me to beat the bush but for now my ATV will get the job done. Back to trans though. Seems like the Allison doesn't like 1000+ rwhp thrown at it. Great trans up to a point but beyond that guys are putting in beefed up Dodge trannies. Guess it's the servo style trans (Alli) versus band apply like the Dodge that is causing the problems. Trying to get a 6k lb truck into the 9's is a b$%*h. Break out the power glides. LOL. Just rambling.

HUH? Dude this thread is debating stock Allison transmissons versus a stock Torqshift. You're opening a whole new can of worms there. Oh and by the way, I'll there are lot of people with ATS transmissions that are happy until they ride in a truck with a competitor's transmission in it. ATS also is not the greatest when it comes to actually honoring their warranty I'm told.

Chill, the Dodge transmissions are not that bad. They just aren't as good as a Torqshift, or an Allison.

Oh, it's Cummins, no "g"
