If you're just talking engine, the 7.3 has to be the choice for reliability. Just remember that it didn't have to deal with as much emissions stuff as the 6.0 does. However, if you're talking about the whole truck (and we don't drive just an engine), the 05 and 06's rise to the top, in my mind. Improved front suspension, tighter turning circle, neater looking grille (there's a big performance boost for you). Auto trans is rock solid, has been on mine. |

I have owned every diesel Ford has put out in a pickup and my 99.5 7.3 stood out heads above the rest. It pulled great, got great pulling milage(doubled my 6.0's and 6.4), got consistant 16.5mpg empty with cruise on 82mph, and was extremely reliable! I have a 6.4 right now and it is a gutless wonder, terrible pulling milage and power, pretty good empty milage. I have a '94 IDI Factory Turbo with 290,650 miles that will out pull the 6.4 and gets double the milage doing it! EPA crap has killed our diesels economy and power, where is the trade off?
