Man I would love to get the fuel millage some of you guys are getting. All my driving is in town with my 05 cc 4x4 on 35s and a very heavy foot and I normally get 9.5 10.5. It never really bothered me because thats what I averaged in my lightning I had and diesel is so much cheaper than premium.

I have a '03 6.0 with 126,000 miles on the odo and climbing daily. My average mileage is a combined 16-20 "city" and 22-24 empty on highway. I drop down to around 9 under load with a 25' V nosed enclosed trailer towing around 10,000 - 12,000 pounds.

Highway speeds I usually am around 70.

Mileage seems pretty good on a stock 6.0 weighing in at 8K pounds.

Question Tuned for MPGs?

I have a 2000 250 w/ 7.3 My mileage is about 14-15 average (mix of highway and city). I haven't had much luck with raising it. I've raised tire pressure and added a air cleaner, windows closed, no heat or AC, ect... I'm very light on gas pedal. Maybe it's the colder weather. I'm thinking of getting a tuner from Jody 80 econ. Has anyone done this and actually got better mileage? ($3.5 gallon in Maryland) Thanks

well in the winter they switch to a different type of diesel which normally gets you worse milage.... don't know when they switch but i think it's once it gets below freezing.. it doesn't gel up as easy

this talk about not having a heavy foot helps mileage, this sounds stupid even to me but i get better mileage the harder i drive it, if i baby it I get crappy mileage, like I said sounds retarded but thats how it goes, was getting 11-12mpg highway, now after replacing screwed up check valve i get 16-17mpg highway with 4.10's and my truck weighs 10,500 empty

Better fuel efficiencey. Couple things can be done.

Better intake. (not just filter, but intake) Either DIY or spendy aftermarket version.

Better exhaust. OBS trucks "NEED" to ditch the flatened DP. All of them benefit from having the stupid cat removed. I personally don't think having a muffler, or being straight piped makes any difference. Just ditch the cat.

Use fuel additives. You need to replace the lubrication that has been lost with ULSD. Everyone has their own prefrence when it comes to fuel additives. My advice, do your homework, and make an educated decision.

As for fuel efficiency in cold weather. Yes, the winter blend yields worse mileage. It's not that big of a difference though.

Those folks with newer trucks. I'm not sure exactly what kind of mpg's they're capeable of getting. A stock 6.0L, getting 10-12 mpg's, I would expect to get at least 12-14 w/ a good fuel additive. And probably 14-16 with the intake and exhaust opened up. (but those are purely speculative, as I don't have a 6.0L)

All I can tell you, is that in my '95 F350, my in town mileage is 21-22 mpg, and highway is 25+ mpg.
