I am burning vegi oil. I start up on diesel and drive a couple miles untill the truck gets up to temp and then it switches to vegi oil. The vegi oil is free so all i burn is about a quart of diesel on every start up...or about 1 dollar worth of fuel per trip whether its a 30 mile trip or a 400 mile trip.

Hi I am new here and this is the subject I was looking for. I have an 06 F350 2wd dually Power stroke with automatic trans. 4.30 gear. I put 14k miles on it this summer, pulling a trailer with average of 24,000 gross. it was lucky to see 8mpg no matter what. I could have slowed to 55mph but that would suck. The truck has pretty good power and I dont have a complaint about that. its the empty mileage that I am disapointed in. I am tempted to put a Gear Vendors overdrive on it but I think it should still get better MPG than this.14.5 empty. I run with a guy who bought a new Chevy Within a week of my Ford. he can pull the same trailer and not get less than 12mpg and 19 to 20 empty.
I also have 2 friends that had Banks add the Big Hoss kit to their trucks. They Haul butt and get 2 more mpg than me.
Anybody out there have this same truck with out the tow haul and 3.70 or 4.10 gear? Sorry to be so long winded.
Thanks Dale Pulde

I see nobody picked up on this one Dale...

I have a 250 with the 3.73 gears so there are going to be differences here... Also I believe the GM products use 3.73 gears and not 4.10's or 4.30's so there will be differences there as well...

I pull a 12ish thousand lb 5th wheel which puts me in the 19k combined weight area... I have averaged between 13 and 14 driving 55 to 65 whether up hill or down hill... I get about 15 to 15.5 around town and don't really know an empty mpg for the freeway cuz the only distance I've gone on the freeway I have the trailer in tow....

Gearing makes all the difference here... I turn about 2000 rpm at 70 and you'll be turning noticably more then that.. Right there will be the difference but 14.5 mpg doesn't sound bad if it's around town. If it's freeway it's sounds low unless you're driving at 80 and 90 , remember, these things are a brick moving through the air.... My friend's Duramax gets about a mile or 2 better to the gallon then my Superduty but then too I outweigh him by about 900 lbs and have 4 wheel drive not 2...

Ken....

Thank you for the feed back. I run about 70mph most of the time. We tried it at 55 one day on a trip and it picked up a few tenths of a gallon. When I 1st got it I was only at 13.8 when it got about 3k miles on it it got up to 14.5 and has stayed there. Now the fuel pump is noisy as hell.
Truck has steered to the left since new. taking it to another dealer the next time. Thanks again Dale

My all time best mileage was running empty w/ cruise at 65 on a flat interstate...I got almost 21. Lately I've been getting 17.5 to 19 depending on conditions. That's all empty though.

i don't know of a great many psd getting more then 15mpg stock running an average of highway and city etc.,the demax as an average is getting better fuel economy due to the allison transmission they use,for instance my 06 2500HD LBZ C/C S/B stock i average around 16mpg with very little highway but when i ran a tank all highway i got 19mpg with an average speed of 70,but after some toys i can very easilly stay at 17 to 18mpg mostly city and country with an average speed of 50..just my two cents

Not really. Most Cummins trucks get low to mid 20's. I get 22-24.5 in mine. Haven't seen near the % of D-max getting those #'s.
