We searched for probably a good solid 6 months before we found our Ex- We wanted a diesel under 100k miles, leather seats (dogs) and a price that wouldn't break the bank entirely. They were either all V10's, had crap loads of mileage or were just too expensive that we shyed away from it.
The funny thing is we found ours by chance... the dealer got it at auction and hadn't put it on the lot yet because they just brought it back- I stopped in to check out what ended up being a V10 model they had and started asking about that one. He cut me a good deal on it because he didn't have it cleaned up yet for the lot. I did a Carfax to be safe and we ended up driving it home a couple days later after he swapped the power steering box and put an alignment on it.
I couldn't have been happier and still don't regret it.

You can't go wrong either way i have had both and with a new child you should have no problem, with the crew cab or x, just depends on what kind of work you will want to do after you get out.
