I guess I'm gonna go with the LCD, but now have to pick a good brand and price... My opening is 51.5 inches wide. I guess something 42 or larger. Any suggestions???

I bought a sony LCD Projection 60" about a year ago and it has been down for repairs almost 2 months total. Once you have problems you find hundreds of other people with horror stories all over the internet. Bad lamps, bad power fuses, all sorts of things. Sony has a bad rep for burning out lamps fast. WHich cost about 650.00. Do your research, check jd powers and other independent surveyors, I wish I had. Good Luck.

I would have to say that I like the plasma better, I have a LG 42" 1080i plasma and have had it for over a year and I have a 26" Samsung 1080i LCD for the bedroom. The Lcd is nice but If I am watching a movie I would pick the plasma over the lcd in a heartbeat, sure the lcd is brighter thats why it cant show true blacks because its so bright. Plasmas show colors so much better especially real deep or rich colors. The LCD is nice for bright areas for the glare reasons but curtians and blinds are pretty cheap..

As for the life on the plasmas mine is 60,000 hours same as the lcds are, and for the burn in problem it has 3 different things that stop it and I have had logos burned in before and it has a thing where it runs pure white for about 15 min and washes the pixels and it works perfect everytime..

If I had to tell someone which one to get I think I would just say If your a movie guy get the plasma but if you dont watch many movies then get a LCD..

Plasma!!! It's the best you can get right now...at least until Organic LED sheet TVs come out.
