Many good replies here... At this point the Sharp Aquos LCD TVs are probably some of the best ever put on the market... Depending on size they have either 10,000 or 15,000 to 1 contrast ratios, 120 Hz refresh rate and 4 millisecond pixel response times... They also have more screen colors then most (not all) of the others which is one benefit to most plasma TVs.... I'll probably be buying one next year so I'm keeping my ear to the ground for the newest technologies out there....

The one thing to remember is panel life, LCDs last as long (or longer) then CRTs... Lamp life is good and most are not to expensive to replace if it does burn out....

Let your eyes tell you which one you prefer and try to compare like to like... In other words if you're looking at a 1080p LCD look at a 1080p plasma and make sure both are playing the same 1080p source program....

Ken....

Oh yeah forgot about them..anybody still selling them? I would be pi$$ed ,If came home with a tv thinking it was an HDTV only to realise it was "ready". Or for that matter if I thought I was coming home with a full HD only to realise it was 720p not 1080I (which are out there in vast quantities) For those still looking 1080p is the highest mode currently available. That is Blue Ray and HDdvd territory for now. (progressive versus interlaced scan) Interlaced is pretty awsome...not sure If i would miss if i had not purchased progressive scan HDTV. I havent seen any "pro-sumer" priced camcorders yet either capable of 1080P. (Under $5000. class?)

man am I glad to see this thread. This is alot of good info and opinions. I was gonna buy one of these a few months back when my Sony 32" that I had for 10+ years crapped out. But since I knew I was moving in Dec of this year I decided just to get a cheap 32" to replace the other one and then I'll get my big plasma, lcd, or dlp when I get into my new home. Did not want to have a big expensive tv get broke in the move.

Oh ,one last thought on buying a HDTV. Some very good deals can be had thru the web. There are however, persistant scammers that refuse to die and just keep changing their names, over and over. Check any vendor out by going to:

I've got a 37" LG LCD HDTV got it about 6 months ago for $1600 and the pictures are clean and crisp. It is the best that I saw for my money, but at the time I got the last one in the store. The rep at circuit city said they were going out the door as fast as they came in. Right now though, technology in Plasmas have made the top end models possible to be viewed anytime of the day w/o glare.
Good luck with your search.

Bought a 42" Sharp Aquos(LCD). So far I'm lovin' it. No glare from lights or anything. Also if you upgrade make sure you get an HD receiver.
