I have had a few arguments with people about this. I believe it should be illegal. It has nothing to do with free speech or right to protest. You are burning something so sacred to many Americans. What do you think?
I don't like it but "speech" that's not offensive doesn't need protected. Yeah it's not speech using words but the SCOTUS has determined it is speech. Of course they're the same people that say a women can murder her baby before it's born too so what do they know? I wish it was illegal, mostly I just wish whenever some pos does it there were a bunch of hardcore veteran bikers around to teach them something
It has everything to do with free speech. The whole point of this country and what makes EVERYONE want to come here is its freedoms, that includes flag burning.....
Now that said I would break a mother f**kers jaw and use the blood from his mouth to put the flag out, but it is still his right. Just like sitting for the anthem. Jeremy Lane just did that last night in Oakland on our sideline. My initial reaction is boot his azz, we don't need him on the team, but again it is his right to not stand. That is what sets this country apart......HOWEVER.....It should be made crystal clear to those people that there is consequences to those actions. Most importantly, your safety and feelings no longer concern us. If you don't like the country that much leave....we will help you, cause you most likely wont be able to walk anyway if caught burning the flag. I also think that it should be legal to remove someone standing on a flag with any means necessary that is not fatal. Like it or not it is their right to express there frustration that way, however it is also our right to defend, maintain and take care of the flag also.....so.......
This is the argument I wanted to see. There is nothing speech about it. It incites riots and violence(Which is against the law). I understand the freedoms in this country. I signed a blank check to defend them. But our boys come home in coffins draped in those flags. We die saluting that little piece of cloth. That flag represents our country. It is a symbol known only second to the Bible. (Seriously, think about that. World wide that flag is known. Do you know what any other countries flag looks like with out looking it up?) Every enemy we have knows it and fears it. Every ally, though they may ridicule us, relies on it when they are in trouble. Seeing troops, tanks, planes arrive with that symbol any where in the world means the battle is over and that Flag wins. How could something so special be destroyed with no repercussions? This is one law(Yes it is a law as interpreted by Scotus and as such can be taken away by them, so it is a law and not a right.) that is wrong.
Amen! It is probably against some EPA law to burn a synthetic flag, but I wouldn't even agree with that.
We're doing some flag retirements next week for scouts, that's the only flag burning I approve.
In the right of free speech, I understand that its someone's right to do so. However, it is completely distasteful, vulgar, and insulting to the nation and the blood, sweat, and tears that provided that right to the very a-hole that does something like that. Because it does go against the very freedoms that flag is to represent and how those freedoms were obtained and protected, I would have no problem with it being a felony to purposely burn the flag. In either case, there should be dire consequences. One could only hope that anyone attempting to burn the flag in protest should catch themselves on fire.
If you honestly believe there is nothing speech related to burning the flag, then you also have to believe that there's nothing speech related about ANY symbol, sign, or visual device....
I've said this many times. Freedoms are here for a reason. Many men/women have stood up, sworn an oath to uphold the Constitution. As we know, many paid the ultimate price for doing so. Freedom we have in this country are for ALL. We CANNOT only support a "Freedom of" when we agree with the point being expressed. It certainly doesn't mean we have to like, agree with or support that expression.
I sure don't agree with burning the Flag of the United States. I, like you, believe it to be something sacred for our country. Obviously not everyone agrees with you or me because people do it.
I don't agree with atheletes sitting down for the National Anthem because the sacrifices of our veterans who gave them their freedom. To me, it's disrepectful.
I don't even agree that "some" are trying to define what a flag 'should' mean so therefore you can't fly it because you don't agree with what they say it means.
Does the mean I would stand by and passively just let someone burn or stand on the flag? No.....because....oh yeah....I have the right to express my "Freedom of" too!!
What I / We agree with or like goes back to my first paragraph. As Toren said, it's part of what makes this country great!
these freakin :tard:s have NO idea what fascismn is and seem to always blather on against their own idiotology
you really cant fix stupid :taze:
but you can hide the bodies  :look:
My brother was there in the Air Force, closest I got was Germany. I did get to see a border wall over there that worked real good, maybe we ought to try that here
two things i do want to point out
firstly to all who served
thank you for your service :hail:
secondly
while i would not call burning our flag a right
as an expression of free speech i suppose i would respect their choice to make a statement but it is a stupid way to make a stupid statement and the choice of stupid people.
these are the same :tard:s who think a crucifix in urine is art but would demand a cross on a hill be removed
because it offends them.
idiocy runs deep in these lemmings
they are fascist moronadons and utterly clueless as to what they stand for
I feel that one of the many freedoms many of us fight for here is the reason why people can burn the flag. I DO NOT AGREE with flag burning in any shape or form but... It is one of the freedoms that makes America so great. (If you don't think America is the greatest country on earth I'll help you to the border). I hope everyone here understands that the confederate flag is not a racist pro item either.
I would love a place where no one would burn flags but if you make it illegal you are opening pandoras box. Now when you enlist in the military or even as an officer you will be charged if you burn the flag but you signed the dotted line so don't cry when you are caught...
UGH why can't flag burning be illegal and yet at the same time we have freedom of speech lol....
It's political speech. I like when people do it because now I know who they are. Just like these athletes with BLM shirts or sitting during the Anthem. A lot of people burned their jerseys and will never buy anything with kaperdiccs name on it. It has repercussions. The nazi jags used to love it when people wouldn't let them speak. Then they wised up and said go ahead, say whatever you want. They did, allowing many more people to hear them. It backfired because then everyone was able to hear their lunatic rantings and made up their mind about them. Never stop a moron from speaking/expressing when you disagree. Romney fell for it when Obama said: go ahead governor.
If all the Patriotic Americans of this Country would stop patronizing ANY sport and ANY team that has even one spoiled millionaire not standing for the National Anthem, the other players would stomp his butt into the ground as it would take all of their million dollar paychecks away.
Problem solved.
As for the flag burning. Spoiled college kids. Ignore them and they'll get bored and go back to playing Pokémon.
Well this is getting worse.....I wish someone could unbrainwash these kids. And it is the PC Propaganda taught in schools. I had a kid the other day tell me that the Emancipation Proclamation freed all the slaves. That is now what they teach....falsehoods that are PC. I set to educating him real quick and in a hurry. Actually made him read that document. Im sorry, but it seems to me that inner cities are starting to look more and more like the turmoil that has ruled Africa for hundreds of years and that we may very well be on our way to our first true civil war........How many of you are going to take the government taking 50% of your money and more if Hillary wins???????
How about burning a Confederate flag? or a Marine Corp uniform? or the Bible?
It's easy to find some symbol that people care about it, but as tough as it may be to see people desecrating the (fill in the blank) you have aligned yourself with, we can't pick and choose what should and shouldn't be off limits.
We would have to go back and add a few clauses to the Constitution, and that would set a frightening precedence.
It would only be a matter of time before they added a section about how the founding fathers didn't have 30-round clips... and so on.
Our range hosted a shoot this last summer and several guys brought their Class III stuff out to play. I got a once in a life time opportunity to spend a few seconds on a Dillon Aero (308 mini gun) which is totally beside the point, but I like to brag about it. Anyway, one of the guys who brought out some really fun toys, and really knew how to put them to use, was wearing a shirt that I really appreciated. It said something along the lines of "You try to stomp this flag and I'll kick your..." Watching that guy absolutely OWN that M16 would have made for a great snap shot.
@SixFive, and @PawPaw you guys can go to the User CP (upper right ) and go to the Group Memberships and request to join the Military member group. Thanks for serving
Thanks for the tip Sparky...hope I don't have to put in 6 more years!! Old guy here who was in the Air Force/Air Guard during the Vietnam era. Came close in the early '70's but no trip over there for me!
My brother was there in the Air Force, closest I got was Germany. I did get to see a border wall over there that worked real good, maybe we ought to try that here
