I say 7.3 also. I dont feel is right that you buy a diesel and immediately sit there worrying when the other shoe is gonna drop ( head gasket/egr problems)
its a known problematic motor ( even though the fixes are known) I use my truck for long distance driving. i rather be in a little less powerful vehicle and get there over and over reliably than to be stuck in the middle of nowhere with a broken down truck. ive been there and done that. I personally will stay away from 6.0s unless ALL the known problematic repairs have been done on someone elses dime then i may buy it.

Im probably gonna wait for the new 6.7 liter to come out

I vote for the 6.0. if you get one that still has warranty, go ahead and purchase the extended 200k warranty. the 6.0 has had some issues, but it is an outstanding performer. I see a lot of broken 6.0's, but I see far more that are doing just fine with proper service.

If you're going to push it at all, plan to do head studs, upgraded egr cooler or delete. gotta have a tuner too, these bad boys are fun with a tuner, lol

That is exactly the reason I will probably never own a 6.0. i have a buddy who is a shop manager at a ford dealer and he's been a ford mechanic for about 30 some years. First thing he asked was what motor I got. he said the 6.0 is a big pile of crap. his words.

6.0 all the way had a 7.3 for two years and my buddy got a 6.0 and i was really impressed with the stock power it had so i traded my truck for a 6.0 and i LOVE it has so much power and i think as long as proper maintenace is done and you get a oasis report youll be good i also use my truck to haul my travel trailer all over the USA and i dont ever worry bout reliabilty

7.3 or 6.0

I prefer the 7.3. The 6.0 has way to many design flaws to ever truely be reliable. At minimum you can expect to do head studs and an EGR delete is a good investment. They are quieter, but that has never mattered much to me.

I would try to find an early gen 2 7.3 so you get the bottom end with better rods. Throw a wildman or dp tune on it, exhaust and intake, and don't look back. The 6.0's aren't that much quicker and the reliability of the 7.3 will more than make up for speed anyway.

Just my .02

My 7.3 is the only diesel I've ever had... and I just got it. However, it has 226,000+ miles and runs like a dream @ 15.5mpg, and I kinda like the "diesel" rattle. NAPA DIY filter soon as I got it, 4" muffler delete exaust this week, tuner... maybe... in the spring. You buy a diesel for power, not speed.

6.0 I bought mine new in 06 and it 54,000 on it now zero problems. Drive both you'll pic the 6.0 over the 7.3.
