I say 7.3 and save the repair money you would use on the 6.0 and spend it on your new born.

I vote 7.3, they might not have as much power stock but they are almost bullet proof and you dont have to spend alot of money to make them bullet proof. Ive worked on both trucks on the 6.0s are alot quieter and ride nicer and have the nice interior but they can be a pain to work on and if you already have perviouse exepriance with the 7.3 and good luck with it. stick with it.

The sticky vanes on the turbo issue comes from people who dont drive their trucks more than once a month or so. What happens is the sit and rust. If you drive it semi regularly you will be fine

If you want to buy a truck and keep it stock you can't go wrong with a 02-03 7.3. If you want a nicer truck and also plan to keep it stock but spend some more $$$ then go with an 05-07....

Romp on it at least once everyday just to make sure the vanes stay clear and you'll be fine. You'll spend 4-700 on an EGR delete or bypass, then 426-500 for tuning. Another 4-600 for studs... install can be as little as 100 bucks or as much as several grand.

It's a split decision but I personally would probably go with the 05+ 6.0 so that you can have 400 rwhp and a nicer truck to start with. Just cost more.

I have an '04 6.0 that I bought new, it now has 198xxx.

Repairs so far besides deleting the EGR and adding headstuds is an alt @ 156k and an ficm @172k.
Still has all eight original injectors and original turbo, I have ran a programer since the truck had 15k, started with a bullydog and switched to an SCT at about 75k.
I drive the living hell out of it everyday, I wouldnt trade it for two new trucks.
BUT...........I had an '00 that I bought with 60k on the clock and it had 316k when I traded for the '04. Put a programer on it as soon as I bought it and drove the living hell out of it, only repair was an alt at about 150k, Only reason I traded was the truck itself was starting to need alot of repairs.
I voted 6.0 because if you find a good one there is no comparison in drivability

6.0 vs 7.3

I'm having a tough time deciding between the 7.3 and the 6.0 myself. The $5000 price tag that I've read about to fix some of the possible problems with the 6.0 really scares me. I guess some of you must have a lot more money than me to eat those charges. I would hate to have to explain to my wife why I just traded my perfectly good V-10 Super Duty for a truck I "had" to have, only to have to come up with another $5000 out of pocket. I don't think that would go over to well with the wife.

Voted 7.3 We have 141,xxx on ours and love it. Our only trouble was the cam sensor which Ford replaced free.

The 04 F-550 w/ 6.0 at work is down again w/ only 95,xxx on it. It has been through 2 turbos, 16 injectors, 4 egr coolers, head gaskets, and numerous other repairs. It would probably be ok w/ studs and egr delete, but the co doesn't want to do it. Now the truck is being retired for a Chevy K5500 w/ Duramax I know this one is one bad one in millions of great 6.0s.

Waiting for the 6.7.......
