I don't like the bonus money being paid out by taxpayers, but it was no secret. These bonus were spelled out in the original TARP bailout money deal. The real problem is that the friggin politicians didn't read(sound famaliar) the contract, and now are stuck with the bonus.

Some senators mentioned taxing the bonus money at 95% to get most of it back. I have a real problem with them being able to levy whatever they want, as much as they want. This part scares me worse than the execs getting the bonus money.

i think the 175 mil is a drop in the bucket compared to the billions they got. and the bonuses were in there contract before they got the stimulas money. AIG is so big that if they went down, we would be in a far worse world of chit.

Yes but did they deserve the bonus? NO. A bonus is a reward What warranted the award? If I didn't meet my goals i would not see a dime.

We don't know if they met their individual goals or not. If the man correctly inventoried the paper clips and was contractually offered 1 mil for doing it, then he deserves it. Overall AIG is hurting, but we don't know the whole story.

Bottom line, if congress had read the contract before they signed off on the bailout, things may have turned out differently. But once again, the congress jumped before they looked, and here we are.

There is nothing Obama can do about it other than spout off like a dolt "we gotta do everything legally to get it back" then have his hound geithner and the AG issue subpoenas. I heard that a lot of congressmen had there pensions tied in with AIG. If thats true then no wonder AIG got 3 bail outs with more to come.

Why do these people deserve bonuses? Bonuses are for people who would have figured out how to keep their company from ever needing a bailout not helping their company in a need for bailout.

These are pre-employment contractually binding bonus.Congress could have written in something, or made the bailout contingent upon the bonus somehow, but probably didn't read the thing fully.(Imagine that). these men are highly intelligent and didn't get to the tops of their fields by accident. Our congress is a bunch of self serving fools, and these bonus are further proof. Don't blame them for accepting a bonus over more pay. Clinton promoted these bonus . Now obama is eating them.

Hahah..what about Bidens own son working for the hedge funds and those account execs making millions in bonus's, what about the union boss's making millions in "bonus's and perks" why are they not going after the union leaders? Since when was it illegal to earn performance bonus's? The US and Canada have been giving the Hollywood studio's massive tax breaks/incentives worth billions of dollars for years..those might as well be bonus's if it ends up in their collective pockets. Where does it end..hmm..I know it should not end with changes to the constitution just so Obama and his merry band of socialist misfits can claw back some money they threw away so they can save some political face. The election isn't over Team Obama is still campaigning with "town hall" meetings in cherry picked Obamabot regions..how much money is that going to cost? How much do Nancy Palosi's flights costs back and forth to San Fran?
