Over the next weeks and months, we will see more idiotic, socialistic items come out of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act that Obama signed into law last week.
Here's one example...the new law includes a provision that provides a 65% subsidy of the COBRA insurance premiums for a worker laid off as of Sept 1, '08. Man, what a great thing!! Now that laid off guy only has to pay 35%!! Again, the Messiah saves the day!! Well, think about this...and I'm sure there are many thousands of small businesses that would fit in this scenario: A business with 40 employees is teetering on bankruptcy because of the economy. The only way to keep the doors open is to lay off half of the workforce. So, reluctantly, the employer does this HOPING that he can at least keep the other 20 working. Well, now he must pay 65% of the laid off employee's COBRA!! If the average premium is $1000, that equates to $650 per employee per month!! Or $13,000 per month!! Now that business that may have survived, has to close completely. AND, now there are 40 people out of work instead of 20!! The provision allows the business to recoup the money as a tax credit on their next quarterly payroll tax payment, but he has to front the money until then. Most small businesses simply cannot do that. What a bunch of idiots!! Mark |

EEEWWWWW I feel so dirty even trying to be funny and act like a socialist. Mark your post is just another example of how libs / socialist act without thinking about the consequences.......much like my 2 year old. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. This appears to be where we are headed. Craig |

Talk about feeling helpless. There isn't a single lib on my ballot to try to get out. Short of writing my congressman to make sure they know how I feel, I've got to sit here and take it.
I think I'll go buy some ammo, today. |

This 65% has been apart of the TAA for some time. No I dont agree with OBAMA. I dont agree with most politicians. This NAFTA has to go. Greed is whats driven the big companies to look elsewhere to produce their product.
In 2 weeks, I will be unemployed again, by Freightliner LLC. The company has seen fit to move to Mexico. This is after assuring us, that the newest model...Cascadia...would be built at the Cleveland NC plant, and the mexico plants were for overflow reasons only. No, I do not want to be out of work, but am glad for the TAA. Through the TAA, 65% of my insurance is covered. The price of insurance, for the coverage that I have now, is almost the amount of what I can draw on unemployment. Luckily, it also pays for my coutinued education for up to, 2 years..While my schooling is being paid for, I can still draw my max benifit of unemployment, and am not required to look for a job. Sorry, may have gotten off subject....but someone paying for my 65%, Thank you. |
