Badfish took the words right out of my mouth. On the Statue of Liberty it says: "Give me your tired, your hungry, your poor." Well, it's Americans who are tired and hungry and poor. And I say, until you take care of that, close the book. We're losing our rights, we're losing our freedom. So that a bunch of foreigners can come in here and exploit our country. And this isn't something that's going on far away. This isn't something that's happening places we can't do anything about it. It's happening right here. |

I don't know if I'm a liberal or straight up conservative but this thread has sparked thoughts in me. I mean both sides are correct. Its not a bad thing to help other countries out and such but there comes a point when you have to take care of your country before you start caring for other countries, otherwise America will just crumble while all the countries we helped would be flourshing.

Wonder if our 'friends' up North and the wacky Euro's take this into consideration when they slam America?[/quote]
It realy bothers me when someone make a comment without looking at the whole picture. The stat about contributions to charities was probably calculated by taking the total contributions to charities and dividing it by the population. This is very missleading due to the differance in tax laws for the big corporations. Most of the large corporations are based out of the US and HAVE to make large contributions to charities for tax reasons. It is not just the large corps either, but also the multi millionair/billionairs when it comes to tax time. I don't know about the Euro's but they are still working on there own problems with the making of the Europian Union. |
