Wow I have never heard of that before, a couple months ago i was sitting at a stop sign when some lady who wasnt paying attention rear ended me. My ball saved my bumber from being damaged, thats why i leave my hitch in. put a big hole through her bumper. Maybe next time she will pay attention

This reminds me of Bill Dance's bloopers where he walks into his own receiver hitch while carrying all his fishing tackle. This is also why i leave my hitch in. I case someone is one their cell phone and isn't paying attention, then bang. Maybe i should just put ranch hand bumpers on.

I have never heard of this. I have lived in Santa Clara county for a long time and have pretty much always left the ball in.

I will ping some SJPD folks I know and see if they have heard of this.

Where were you when they stopped you?

I was pulled over about 5 years ago for an obstructed plate (it was covered in concrete)
The CHP officer let me go with the knowledge I needed to clean my plate off.

I have a 4" X 1/2 wide scar on my right knee cap from when I was a kid (maybe 10) and I was running behind my uncles truck and smashed my knee into his slide in hitch. It just tore a huge chunk of skin and meat out, and since my older brother told me they will have to put my knee into a sewing machine to stitch it up I stayed away from the house the rest of the day, and by the time I came home it was too late for stitches.
So I got a switchin' instead

Nothing like two beating in one day. You were an unlucky kid that day.
