I wasnt after your Mr. Henry. You're doin' your part. The constitution, to my recollection, says "natural born citizen" but does not specify what exactly that means. I would have to reread to be 100% sure though. To many, natural born means on US SOIL, not where we have agreements. (for instance, panama does not count). This issus has come up two or three times in the past with other candidates and mccain last go-round, but since neither of the past times has the person at issue been elected(or electable), it has been by the wayside......... My thought- sorry charlie, you werent born here, sympathy and "feelings" aside, thems the breaks. |

Were McCain's parents on the base serving in the military? Also, what if a couple who is expecting a child is overseas for one reason or another, say a vacation that had been planned long before the pregnancy was known, or they are visiting friends or relatives and the baby comes early? Would that simple fact disqualify an otherwise perfectly legitimate "us citizen" from running for president?

Yes, it could....and well, should IMO. If we start making up exceptions to that natural born citizen rule, then what is next? "Well, the parents were foreign nationals, but they are in the process of becoming US citizens..." You get the idea. Slippery slopes are easy to start, hard to stop. I understand "natural born citizen" has yet to be tested/fully defined, but sometimes stuff happens and its just too bad. |
