Now that Penn State has set the precedent...
Penn State University made a bold and appropriate statement by removing a statue of Joe Pa from its campus yesterday. The act of harboring a pedophile for more than a decade in order to protect a football program was as reckless and senseless as the acts themselves. His legend along with his incredible career are now in the wind, served as notice to anyone who would dare protect their own interests over the welfare of children.
I wonder if the Catholic church has been watching the drama at PSU unfold? I wonder if effigies will be torn down in places where priests and clergymen committed these very same acts, where the perpetrators and their actions were shrouded and concealed by the money and clout of the Catholic church? Penn State as a community has decided to clean up the mess others have left for them. I wonder what courage lies in the hands of those in the Catholic community?
