Exclamation This is seriously disturbing!

Quote:
The second provision would deny suspected terrorists, including U.S. citizens seized within the nation's borders, the right to trial and subject them to indefinite detention. It reaffirms the post-Sept. 11 authorization for the use of military force that allows indefinite detention of enemy combatants. The provision includes a Senate-passed compromise that says nothing in the legislation may be "construed to affect existing law or authorities relating to the detention of United States citizens, lawful resident aliens of the United States, or any other persons who are captured or arrested in the United States."

Kiss your constitutionally protected right to a trial goodbye! Our Secretary of defense has already labeled "Veterans and conservative groups" as "potential terrorists." Now all it takes is someone to decide you are a SUSPECTED terrorist, and you can be detained indefinitely, without trial.

If this doesn't bother you you are a fool.

This has NOTHING to do with political correctness, this allows the government to do 2 very scary things:
  1. Declare citizens "suspected terrorists" and detain them wherever they want, (like Guantanamo) indefinitely, without trial.
  2. Use the military against citizens on domestic capacity.

How does blatantly violating our constitutional rights protect us from terrorists? Pretty sure it's our own government we need to worry the most about. One of the worst parts of this is that they are using the money we pay in taxes to give themselves the ability to violate our constitutional rights.

While I do agree this is disturbing because it does circumvent due process....for U.S. Citizens. However, the article did say that:
"Senate Intelligence Committee Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said she and several other lawmakers, including Judiciary Committee Chairman Pat Leahy, D-Vt., would introduce legislation to ensure that no U.S. citizen is held indefinitely without trial." When that will happen I don't know.

OTOH, I'm not going to get my trousers too twisted up over this because I don't plan on engaging in any terrorist activities (Suspected or otherwise) to get my big backside thrown in jail.

Feinstein Ha! Yea right, I'm sure they will get right on it. If it were that important, then why wasn't the U.S. citizen exception included in the original bill?

I think you missed the point of what this allows. Just think of how terrorist have been defined to date. Tea Party, Military personnel, gun owners with more than 2 guns, ...etc.

^THIS is why you, and the general populous is a damn fool.

All it takes is some nut to cross your name with someone who IS "suspected" or you could be a member of some group or movement that IS.

Do you not realize that our own government had labeled returning vets as potential terrorists? Does that term "potential terrorist" ring any bells?????

This is setting up for a total police state. TOTAl government power. Just because they are not violating YOUR rights right now doesn't mean they won't you give them the ability to and it WILL happen. Maybe not to YOU specifically, but it WILL happen. Thats why we have the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, is to PUT LIMITS on what the government CAN and CAN'T DO!!!!!

THIS IS A CLEAR, 100% VIOLATION OF EVERY CITIZENS' 6th AMENDMENT RIGHTS!!

Quote:
In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense.

glad to see we agree here.

funny thing is this is the first thing some progressive liberal/occupy wall street/peace/war activist person would also be scared, and angry about.

only they will BLAME the GOP or the RIGHT as if their beloved progressive DEMOCRATS have nothing to do with this!

it's become such a double standard since obama has taken over. things that bush was held to a high standard over like the wars, terrorism, guantanomo bay, etc all get put in their back of their minds just, because this new presidents SAYS he wants peace, and is DISTRIBUTING the wealth.
