Live and Let Live Crowd

Most of us here have Conservative views.

So the jest of my thread has to do with "Live and Let Live".

There have been a few that stated in my Gay Marriage thread, that is how they live their lives. It dosent bother me so it's ok. Yet you complain that the libs are ruining our Country.

I would be willing to bet you had the same attitude with the liberals too. Oh they're not bothering me so it's ok.

I hope you see where I'm going here, it's not so great to "live and Let Live".

To me, it has to do with the word itself. Marriage is a union between a man and a woman UNDER GOD. The government has nothing to do with it. They should stop issuing marriage licenses altogether and issue only civil union certificates instead to everybody. If some nut wanted to enter into a union with their flower pot so be it. Just don't try to act as though it would be recognized by GOD. We could all agree tomorrow that the sky is universally red. It wouldn't make it so.

Give the legal rights to those that want them. Just leave the word "marriage" out of it.

It's because conservatives are raised differently I think. I was raised to do unto others as I would have them do unto me. So that means I normally would not say anything to anyone unless they are interfering with my life.

The problem is we've let them step on our toes so many times that they are now running the country and it's completely out of control. We have to change our mindset and start picking fights as they do with us.

There are different types of 'conservatives' out there. Most of us are in the "let and live crowd" - basically leaning towards the libertarian side of the fence. We favor smaller and less-intrusive government. I suppose you could say we are what Republicans used to be several years ago.

Others in our camp are more authoritarian in nature, and tend to be more inclined to involve themselves in the lives of others. Be it abortion, religion, pornography, alcohol or other things rather personal in nature, the idea that someone out there might be enjoying themselves can tick off some of them. They generally claim to want smaller government and oppose the welfare state, but have little resistance to empowering a nanny state type of government.

As with liberals, conservatives come in different shades and each faction blames the others for the recent victories of liberals, statists and socialists.
