Good for you and "Thanks".
My son is a career firefighter in Upstate SC. I was a volunteer for 10 years.

thanks for the support. I currently own a construction company, and i just feel like i need to be doing more. I make decent money, when there is work, but i just dont feel like i am making a differnce. My business partner and I decided that we will both become volunteers, and that I will keep going to school and become full time. But will still have a hand in the business. so I hope all works out. So the all you guys who are on the job, do you think i should go for it?

My son works 24 hours and then has 48 off. Most of the guys and gals have second jobs. My son hunts and fishes! Hope it works out for you.

Good luck to you, I'll echo the talking to the local dept. ideas... Each one has it's own rules and such...

Be prepared to study Emergency Medicine. That seems to be the prevailing criteria across the board nowadays. Most Volly Dept's want you to at least be an EMT-B and to be on a paid dept around here you are required to get your Paramedic cert. within 1 year of your hire date.

kettering sent me to school for free as long as i commit 2 years. SOme places might require you to live within 1 mile of the station though. Toledo did when I went to school at UT. But in Kettering they dont care cuase its so small. Just go ask them!

Just got accepted with my local Volunteer FD. Excited is an understatement! It's a 6 month course, and it was my 2nd time applying. My brother is on the FD full time. I might make it a career, but for now I want to se what it's like. It's something I've wanted to do since I was 4 yrs old, going by the fire station on the school bus haha

I know I'm not from Ohio but just wanted to share
