Ipod question

Ok, I finally got hi-tech and bought an Ipod today. Actually, she made me buy it. My cd player in my truck has a USB port on it and I just put all my music on a thumb drive and plug it in, but that's a different story. Anyway, how in the he!! do I get the music from my computer onto this thing? I know you're supposed to use Itunes but is there a different way? I tried plugging it in to my computer and sending the songs to it like I do my thumb drive but that didn't work

So, can I send my songs that I already have through Itunes or do I have to buy music?

any cd's can also be put on itunes and then on your ipod, it is actually pretty easy, I have over 4000 songs on mine, I am in the music industry so, I have a lot, it is pretty easy, you just have to set it up in preferences, and they will all store in itunes, you may have to change the music format that they are in, for them to work, personally, i use AAC that is a nice quality for your truck, the only reason you would want the higher quality is if you are listening to opera or ochestra, but then you would have to have one kick @ss stereo system designed for that kind of music, and in the powerstroke with the outside noise you just wouldn't need it, but it is pretty easy.

there are ways to use windows media player it is slightly more complex but once you get the hang of it, it is really not that bad. I actually prefer that way over itunes. If you google it you will find a ton of writeups on it.
