What is the friggin point!!!!
Of having a large HDTV if half the HD channels reduce the size of the picture on your screen? For instance I was watching "How it's Made" on the Science Channel and there is at least a 1.5-2" black border around the picture on the screen. I was watching a couple of other shows yesterday and they were even smaller. Both of them were "HD" channels though. My TV isn't that big, it's 42 inches, but it replaced an old 27" set. The whole point of buying such a bigger TV was for a bigger picture, but it seems many of these channels broadcast a reduced size picture. Is there a valid reason other than pure bull**** for this? Anyone know? Makes me wish I would have bought a 46 or 50 inch, but I'd probably still b!tch about it.

It sound like the TV is switching size due to shift in format. You need to check how the formatting is on the TV. If you have it set right other than picture quality you won't notice the differenc between SD and HD programming.

It's set correctly. Maybe I was exaggerating because I mainly watch like 10 or 15 HD channels compared to the many more that we actually get. I just get agitated when the screen is reduced, but I switch to the very next channel and it's full. It defeats the purpose, IMO!
