So, i was wondering if anyone knows how to run/connect some ethernet cables in a house, so that i can just plug the ethernet cables into the wall, and not have a huge cable mess..... any help is appreciated.

Going wireless is much easier. There are simple tutorials on the internet how to setup the security features on the wireless router. Now if you need the bandwidth of a wired network (wireless is getting close though) then one of the above posts contains a good list of what you will need. You can usually buy a box (1000') of Cat5e cable for around $50 if you keep your eyes open. Home Depot, Lowes, Staples, Office Depot and Office Max all sell Cat5e cable. You want to make sure you use Cat5e cable since it is rated at 1GB/sec where Cat5 cable is rated at 100MB/sec. No significant price difference between the two and you're better off running Cat5e as most new computers come with 1GB ethernet cards. If I were you I would look into wireless 802.11-N. |

well wireless would be good, but then i have to get a wireless router, a aireless card for my computer, and the wireless usb things for my xbox 360. i just thought it would be easier to run some wire in the walls and put in some plates with the ethernet port on them. then i could just plug them in there. what is the cost difference between the two, going wired or wireles.

You can get wireless routers cheap, a card for your laptop would be cheap too, not sure about the price for the Xbox, if that is just a standard USB wireless adapter, those are cheap as well. Even after buying all them, it would still probably be cheaper than buying the wire, wall jacks, plates, punch down tool, etc
